Currently we have V5R4 system with two raid sets(RAID5 active) hot spare is not enabled. We added an expansion unit with extra disks. I want to create another two raid sets with hot spare enabled. Could you please provide the details how it could be done from DST. I don't have navigator setup for some reason.

I would ask the vendor you purchased you equipment from. The reason is you are on an old release which IBM support ended back in Oct 2013.

I saw a discussion on this topic in a different web site within the past week. Hot spare only became available at v5r4m5 and only with certain controllers.

First see Requirements for Hot Spare to verify capability. Perhaps also see Load source placement rules for IBM i logical partitions if applicable.

Unfortunately, on-line documentation for V5R4 has been taken down for some time now. The various paths for the many possible hardware configurations makes it difficult to guess which specific steps might need to be taken.

There are discussions on the Internet found with [ "hot spare" v5r4m5 ] as search criteria. You might get lucky to find one that closely matches your specific setup. (Google Translate might help for some.)

I have added the disks successful. Now it's time for laid source migration.

I am confident about disk copying ....then after hmc profile need to be changed as the new expansion is in different location and different scsi. Can any one help on that.
