To recover items from a corrupted PST or OST you can try to repair either file type using ScanPST.exe or ScanOST.exe. For Office 2000, XP, and 2003, these 2 exe’s are located in C:Program FilesCommon FilesSystemMSMAPI1033; for Office 2007 – %drivefolder(that you installed Office into)%Office12.

To recover hard deleted items from the online mailbox (assuming you’re using Exchange), you can turn on the “Recover Deleted Items” feature for Outlook using the registry. In Regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftExchangeClientOptions , then create a new DWORD Value in there named DumpsterAlwaysOn (case sensitive, I think) – give it the value of 1.

    If you are not a technical person and you want to recover OST and PST files. So here is the process you can follow:-1. For OST you need to convert corrupted OST to PST file and then you can access it. 2. PST you can repair it.For these two steps you need to use 3rd party tool if you don't know the technicalities. There are many tools online you can search easily. Before using these tools you can read user reviews and compare them on tech sites.For more information about email recovery you can visit:-

    Great question! As suggested by many popular forums and experts of the respective domain, Scanpst tool can be used to recover emails from corrupted OST and PST. If you are using Outlook 2007 and and other older versions of Outlook then scanost.exe tool is recommended for repairing corrupted ost file. But these types of tool does not provide satisfatory result if ost/pst files are majorly corrupted.

    If Outlook file is corrupted, you need to follow the below steps;

    1. Rename them to ‘.old’ while Outlook is running (even in the background)

    2. Then, make Outlook recreate the offline profile from the Exchange server all over again

    If the file was not synchronized with the server, it might be storing some items that the server still does not have yet. Therefore, loss of data is to be expected in such cases. If there is chance of data loss one should try result oriented third party solution which repairs ost/pst files by keeping care each parts of data. You might take help from any trusted brand.

    Let's see how to recover hard deleted emails from online mail box.
    Firstly I would like to explain about hard delted emails, it means permanent deletion of item using Shift + Delete. permanentaly deleted items cannot be recovered from Deleted Item folder, as data becomes unavailable in Deleted Item folder. When user permanently deletes the data of OST file, it moves to the dumpster (owing to the file's connection with Exchange) from where it can be recovered using the Recover Deleted Item option provided on Outlook.

    This option is only available when the retention policy(time limit for which Exchange maintains the permanently deleted items) has been applied by server admin. Using this procedure, user can restore their data to desired folder of their mailbox. Sometimes you may see Deleted Item Option is disabled. This option will disable if you are working in offline and not using an Exchange account.

    If you are not able to solve your problem and still you are not accessing your corrupted or deleted OST emails. You should choose third party solution of any trusted brand (SysTools OST Recovery, Stellar, PCVITA) having free trial run to check product efficiency.These types of solution having proficiency to repair corrupted OST file as well as recovery of deleted email is also possible.

    Hope it will help You!!
