Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

You should start with the basics.

Learn about the “game loop” concept.  Learn about sprites.

Look for some beginners tutorial and follow it until you have a working simple game.

Once you understand the basics you will be able to move forward to more advanced concepts.

There are a lot of good sites out there that could answer this better. It depends on what type of game, 2D or 3D, single player or multi-player, 1st person shooter. There are a lot more variables and other languages that be better for game development.

First of all, if you know java (core & advanced), you can find out the answer by your own. If you are a beginner, you must try to gather knowledge on core & advanced java. After getting knowledge, you can find the solutions.

Do you have a particular type of game in mind? Maybe we can offer some tips if we understood the project.

Game development is not so easy in java. As java is like a ocean, no knowledge is enough for java. No body can tell s/he knows java to the ultimate level. If you have some knowledge, you can try to develop some games like, tic-tac-toe or even creating program based on calculator/ notepad/ file explorer. These help you to understand better for hi-level programs in java.
