What is the question? There is only a SELECT statement and statement of any problem. Nor is there any indication of the DBMS, platform or OS.

i have date range like '03-05-2016' to '06-05-2016' and want to retrieve data within this range then i have to print 0 at that row and if i have data in this range then find the no. of rows correspond to that data

"i have date range like '03-05-2016' to '06-05-2016'"
Where do you have that range?  In some row in another table? in variables? or will they be bind variables for the query?

    "
want to retrieve data within this range then i have to print 0 at that row"
which row?  It is possible that more than row falls into the desired range, so which row are you referring to?

    "
if i have data in this range then find the no. of rows correspond to that data ".

Sounds like you just want to count the number of records that fall into the desired date range.  is that correct?

You really need to provide more details if you want to get useful answers.

At least, you should tell us what DBMS you are using,  provide the structure of your table(s) and explain clearly the logic behind the results you want.  Ideally, you should also post tables' creation scripts and inserts with some sample data, so people wanting to help you can test their ideas.

At a minimum, you should post some representative sample data and the results that you expect from that data. That would let us get an idea of what the process should be.
