A friend of mine told me that Chromebooks are getting support to run Linux applications. But on those machines, how can I enable those apps? I'm currently on a Dell Chromebook - is it still possible? Thanks so much.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Some Chromebooks do, some others will and many never will. See the list of Chromebooks with Linux app support for a basic (current) list.

If you’re a developer, you might be able to set your Chromebook in ‘developer mode’ to run your own Linux apps.
Be aware that (currently) Linux desktops e.g., Unity or XFCE, are not supported.
You don’t do anything for this support. The Chromebook either supports it or it doesn’t. You might need to update your OS.

Yes, it is possible, while the Dell Chromebook 11 onwards. Before doing anything, it is recommended to keep Recovery Image for safe purpose. If anything will be happened wrong, you can recover data/OS through this media.

Moreover, check the system is updated with latest one and necessary dependencies are there. Also check whether there is enough space to run the same.
