How to connect a Windows PC to OpenVPN server on a Linux machine

Hi, I installed OpenVPN on a Linux machine within my home LAN. Everything went fine including generating the *.crt and *.key files. I tried to connect my PC (on same LAN) to the openvpn using "OpenVPN client", but the latter doesn't allow using the *.crt and *.key files I generated, so it failed. Could anyone tell me how to connect a PC to a OpenVPN on a Linux machine? Thanks a lot

    Why not? It should.

Please describe the specific steps that you took to generate the files and to install them on the Windows client PC. Also show us any errors that result when you try to use them.

    Hi TheRealRaven,

    I followed the instructions on:
    http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/801563/Setting-Up-a-VPN-Server-on-Ubuntu-Using-OpenVPN

All went OK, I checked the vpn server process is running and I successfully generated the 2 crt files and 1 key file. Then I disabled the ufw firewall just in case.

Then I found a OpenVPN client-only software and installed it. It gives you the possibility to give server IP, username and password. I checked everywhere but the client not only not asking for the credentials, but there is no way to embed those files during authentication.

The error get is something like:  connection refused by remote host, or connection couldn't be established. I tried disabling the windows (client machine) firewall, that didn't help.  I also tried to use the built-in windows connection to openvpn but there again there's no way to use the credentials files.

I intentionally installed the openvpn client-only, cause logically as a client machine, this is all I need.

I'd be grateful for any suggestion leading to solving the issue.

And what was it? Where did you get it from?

    Hi TheRealRaven,

    The client I downloaded from:
    http://help.unotelly.com/support/solutions/articles/184301-openvpn-desktop-client-setup-windows-

And the installation process ran exactly as in:
    https://openvpn.net/index.php/access-server/docs/admin-guides/395-how-to-install-the-openvpn-client-on-windows.html

    Any clues?
