I have a customer currently using RPG - AS/400. The customer needs to track AS/400 users who print to a multifunction printer but there is no users info in the print stream currently. How can I add the users info in AS/400 print spool and what are the steps required? Thank you!

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

The only thing I can see is using the user information in the spool file attributes. It might get you close to what you want. If you are looking to see who actually sent it to the printer that is a different story. You could have 10 users having all their output land in one OUTQ say AROUTQ. If someone who has access to that AROUTQ decides to move it to the multi-funtion OUTQ to print, I do not know of a way of tracking that change.

Todd is correct, the user info will tell you who generated the spooled file, but if you have someone moving spooled files to another OUTQ there is no way of tracking that.
But... If you have suspicions of who it _might_ be, you could try removing their authority to the multi-function OUTQ (*EXCLUDE) and see if the problem persists - in which case you know it wasn't them. Put the authority back and have another guess.

The removing authority is always another option. When the unknown person calls to complain that they cant do something that the could the other day you will know who it is.

In case the correct SECURITY AUDITING is in effect one can track entries on Spoolfiles. So that is a way to accomplish tracking which user is taking actions on spoolfiles.
