How do I configure my domain controller?

Domain Controller
I just started MY MCSE. I have a doubt regarding configuring Domain Controller. The name which we specify as a DNS name is what? Is this the name of our own website or something else. I just confused by the word DOMAIN. Whenever I hear the word DOMAIN, it occurs to my mind that it is the name of space reserved on internet, which is used for creating the websites, etc., (OR) DNS name is just a local database name which we create is Server? Is this no way related to internet? Please help me in this matter, if both my conclusions were wrong, please tell me what's right.

On the Internet, a domain consists of a set of network addresses. This domain is organized in levels. A domain name is an identification string that defines a realm of authority/ control within the internet. Domain names are formed by the rules and procedures of DNS. Any name registered in the DNS is a domain name. In the Internet domain name system, a domain is a name with which name server records are associated that describe subdomains/ host. For eg., www.yahoo.com/ www.hotmail.com and so forth. You have just started MCSE, put some quality time for your study and you will know everything about Internet/ network.
