How can we symlink a file in Linux?

My friend and I have created this code (which I'll post below) that the first path is the folder we want to link into while the second path is the compiled source. Would anyone be able to tell us if this is correct? Thanks so much!
'ln -s '+basebuild+'/IpDome-kernel/kernel /home/build/sandbox/gen2/basebuild/IpDome-kernel/kernal '
