Does anyone have any recommendation or procedures for repairing a corrupt PDF? When I open the file I get "There was an error opening this document. the file is damaged and cannot be repaired." There seems to be a myriad of tools out there but none that I could describe as reputable. Are there any ppen source Linux based solutions for this possibly?

Software/Hardware used:
Adobe, Windows

Have you tried to open the same file on another computer! If the same happened, try to get the same file again from the source. And open it again. If all attempts fail, try sysinfotools pdf repair.

If you did not create this PDF, try and download it again or ask the sender to e-mail again if you have already deleted the e-mail. Is this the only PDF you have an issue with? It may be that you Adobe is not current.

As you asked for Linux based, Linux has several built-in pdf readers, like kpdf/ evince/ okular. You can try to open the same pdf file with any one from them. If you are bound to open with adobe reader, you can navigate here: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/cant-open-pdf.html

PDF files can corrupt by various ways such as Sudden Power failure, Improper downloading, Incorrect creation procedure,System malfunction,Virus attack etc.If your  PDF files are showing unreadable and hard to find data that  means your PDF files are damaged and corrupt .

With the  help of some manual steps, you can easily find your Problems.

    Step 1: Launch the program.

Step 2: Check the program is up to date or not.

Step 3: Now, click to help option -> then go to option Check for updates.

Step 4: A small window will appear with a text detail, you can check the program setup is up to date  or not.  If there are awaiting updates, then proceed and install them.

If the above manual procedure fails to recover your corrupted pdf file ,then you can use any third party tool which you could get easily from the web.  You can use Sysinfo tools, PDF recovery tool, adobe reader  etc.  because many company leaders and experts  believe in this tool to recover the PDF files.

It's very unfortunate that even after trying the methods listed here it may still be unusable. I cannot stress the importance of having back-up of you data. I back everything up at least once a month. When it comes to important documents/files I back up to my HD and a thumb drive (64g) as a safety net, just in case.

In general, corrupted pdf files could not be recovered with 100% satisfaction whatever method applied.
