In the upcoming weeks, I'm migrating from SVN to Git. But when I was using SVN, I was able to copy my repo folder when I needed it back up. But Git doesn't have that so what do I do? One thought of mine was to make a clone on a separate drive and pulling it from my project. Does that make sense?

Yes, a clone is a very valid way to backup a repository, preferably with the –mirror switch to make sure it includes everything.
