While putting a message in MQ Request queue using API -- Is message ID automatically generated by AS/400. Can Message ID be tracked in the AS/400 who PUT the message in Request Queue? Can Destination application address be sent in MQ Message attribute or Message body to WebSphere MQ which will send it to proper application? I am new to MQ so any explanation would be of great help.

A custom message queue for a job can hold just about any thing. If you are talking a system message queue, that's different. Can you elaborate more on what MSGQ you are referring and what you wish to accomplish?

It will contain in message description of your message which is something called correlation id and you cant find anything in the IBMi history log or anywhere in message queue.

"Custom" and "system" *MSGQs are practically indistinguishable: both can hold the same things. It might make little sense to send a *RQS message for example to a *MSGQ such as QSYSMSG, of course, but it can be done.

The question seems to ask for a tutorial in MQ (and possibly IBM i message processing) with a lot of necessary background. I would expect MQ to have a fairly comprehensive "User Guide" and "Programmer Reference" available. It's been a few years since I dug into MQ documentation, but I used to find a lot of details about it. I don't currently have access to the product, so I don't know where info can be found.

However, it seems that most of the question can be addressed by reviewing the .PDF that can be downloaded from IBM's How the Message ID and Correlation ID are handled in a Transmission Queue page. If that doesn't give good answers, please describe what more is needed.
