I have a Transcend 1TB external hard drive that has stopped working. I have about 50,000 pics & songs on it. Is there any way to retrieve them?

It depends on why it "stopped working" and perhaps other factors such as how the HD connects to the system. More details are needed.

Like Raven said we need more details. Did the power fail? Does the system recognize the drive but cannot access it? Is it just not able to find your files on the drive.  Which model drive do you have, there are a few listed online.

You can try to reboot your system in Safe mode & connect the HDD then check if that works. Also you may try to connect this HDD on another system, if available.

If the HDD works on another system, for safety purpose, run a anti virus scan like MWAV and make sure this does not happen for virus activity.

If you try and move it to another computer, make sure that one is running a good anti virus program. You do not want to infect another computer if yours is infected. That is one way they replicate to other systems.
