Handle MySQL backups with Git

For our MySQL backup, we came up with a pretty good idea but we're not entirely sure. To backup it up, we thought of putting the dump file into a Git repository, and the commit on each dump so we have the most recent copy / we can roll back to a previous backup. But we're not sure of the flaws doing this. What are the issues? Should we consider this idea in the end? Thanks!

It can work, but the repository may grow too much making commits and other operations too slow.  Also, it would not be very easy to remove old revisions from the repository, and I don't think you are planning to keep old database backups forever.

I don't think it is the best idea.  I would look for a tool specifically  designed for backups in this case.
