No almost not possible, specially on iPhone. Without knowing password/physical access, this is almost not possible. But why did you ask. Did you suspect that your phone is hacked? If yes, what symptoms are there? How did you know that. As this is a security related issue, more information is needed.
Now to the issue, some days ago, I received messages from two separate unknown numbers (on whatsapp), both claiming to be the same person. (while refusing to reveal identity)
The person claimed to have access to my messages by using only my mobile phone number and ip. He told me that he has been tracking me for a month. (I have travelled to four different countries in that same time period, so I dont see how that would work.) The problem however is that he did mention some privy information which only my wife should know.
Now it could be that the person might have found it out in another way, but as a precautionary step, I must know just how secure my private messages are.
I have downloaded no unknown softwares, and I mostly travel alone so no one could possibly have physical access to my phone.
Is it possible for a mid-level hacker (I cant imagine why a high-level hacker would bother me anyway) to pull something like that off?
I googled around, and people do claim that certain hackers can do it, but its hard to see weather its bogus or not...
Your help would be greatly appreciated, need to know if its possible, and if it is, how do I protect myself from this happening again.
It may be possible. If you have ever used free/public Wi-Fi you are opening yourself to a good possibility of getting hacked. If they got some of you login credentials, they could have access to your social media accounts and learn a lot about you. Even more if you use this same password for multiple accounts that can make matters worse. Say they got the password to your email account 98765. They read your emails and see you bank sent you an email. If you used the same password for your bank, they can now log into tour bank account and drain it...I always tell people, use a strong password for EVERY account and stay off public/free Wi-Fi.
Yes, access to your WhatsApp account is possible without touching or using your phone or Wi-Fi. It's so unlikely, though, that it's not worth even thinking about (unless you don't have appropriate security for your account; but we don't know anything about your handling of that, so we can't guess).
For security the first thing is use a strong password. A mix up uppercase and lowercase with a few numbers and if it allows special characters. Yes it's a pain to keep track of but it's the first line of defense. Change it every month or two as well and never use the same password on multiple accounts.
