We have this morning 7 users who get failure when logging on to system after maintenance activity. User profiles has been "overwritten" during the Maintenance. I have changed back, group profile, start program, name, enabled for them. Kindly help me to understand what was wrong in the process.

What was the maintenance being done? User profiles don't normally get overwritten.

If this was a system restore, then their last profile configuration wasn't saved, so was restored to an earlier config.

We'd need to know a bit more about what you were doing as 'maintenance'  to answer more accurately

we have maintenance activity peroformed once in 2 months , this activity includes full system backups, reorganization, ptfs and other important iseries related activities, however this time we took full system backup of system and then reorg the phy file data. Is it coming because of Reorg the data?

The reorg of physical file data is to compress out the deleted records. That should not effect the profiles.Unless a restore was done to reset the profiles there should have been no change to their function. I can't say for sure if a PTF would cause this unless it was fixing some security issue that all these profiles were associated with.

If they changed the initial program call to *none, then once they logged in, it probably just logged right off. To prevent this, make sure only those who need it have the ability to change user profiles. It can be dangerous in the wrong hands. I they had changed the QSECOFR profile the same way, you could have even more issues.

Hi, Thank you, so  does it mean changing the start up program to *none while ipling the system , causes the issue and overwritten the user profiles and startup program for the system.i could not find any thing in the audit journals

Are you asking about the system's "startup program" named in the QSTRUPPGM system value? Or are you asking about the "Initial program to call" attribute of some individual user profiles? Those are two very different and unrelated things.

Having "Initial program to call" set to *NONE in a user profile is common. Whether it would be a problem for the user or not depends on what an initial program does, other settings in the profile and what the user needs to do.

Having the QSTRUPPGM system value set to *NONE would normally only be done during maintenance when an attended IPL would be done. It would be very unusual for it to be the normal state of a system.
