Google Chrome keeps blocking my downloads

For some reason, Google Chrome keeps blocking all of my downloads. I've tried Firefox, IE and Edge and all of them are working fine. Is there a setting that I need to disable to allow downloads to go through? Perhaps a security setting?

Yes, it may be for security settings of Chrome. Open Chrome Settings then click Advanced & under Privacy and Security, there are several options that can toggle On/Off. Check one by one and make toggle on/off as you understand. Specially you can toggle off for the option "Protect you and your device from dangerous sites". But just for once while you want to download the particular file, after downloaded the file again toggle on this option for safe browsing.

A lot of browsers have been tweaking their security policies. I to have to switch browsers sometime to do the thing I want. Some things are being being dropped and no longer supported and that may mean certain files are not valid for the browser any longer. What type of file are you trying to download and from where?

An example of a download link that is blocked by Chrome is needed. Chrome is possibly the best/most secure of the most common browsers, so the answer might be that the other browsers are failing to protect you.

Also check if there are plugins/extensions for Chrome, you can disable for the time of downloading and again try to download the file. If you can, after downloading you may again enable the plugins/extensions, if any. Just for checking all possibilities.

If all downloads are being blocked are they giving you the same error message? If so what is the exact message? It might help us in resolving your issue.

My work computer downloaded updates overnight.  Now, any word files that I try to download from my yahoo mail give a message that "download blocked."  Since this is the majority of my job, and it's a one person office, I need some help!  Thank you

@MarciaM: here are a few things you can try.

    • Disable the add-ons and extensions of your browser for a while as they can also block the Yahoo Mail attachment.
    • Switch the browser if the Yahoo Mail attachment issue continues.
    • Finally, if the issue persists, then you should temporarily disable your antivirus and reload the attachment again.
