Free anti-virus software: Cloud vs AVG

Antivirus software
Cloud Security
Which is the better freeware... Cloud antivirus or AVG? Also, when installing one in favor of the other, should the previous software be deleted?  In which order should this be done? For example:  I'm running AVG right now, and I've been told Cloud has a more effective product.  Should I delete AVG first and leave myself (briefly) open to attack?  Or should I install the Cloud software, and then delete the AVG?  Or do nothing? How does this affect those who have installed 'pay-for' versions of anti-virus software that needs to be updated for a fee? I have had no problems, by the way, with AVG...

I’ve used AVG for several years and not had problems with it. AV products will continually be leap frogging each other as they all keep innovating.

If you are going to change AV products do so for positive reasons after researching the product features and make sure that the new product does match your requirements.

If I was changing AV I would:

1. Download new software
2. Disconnect from Internet
3. Remove the old software
4. Install new software
5. Connect to Internet
6. Update new product

Well, I don't know the Claud product, but I have been using AVG on a couple of machines for over a year without any problems. However, if you want to replace it, you should uninstall (not delete) AVG first, and then install the other product. If you are worried about leaving your machine unprotected for a moment, then you can download the new antivirus installer first, then uninstall AVG, unplug the network cable, install the new software, plug the network cable, update the virus definitions, and only after that, surf the web, chat, read emails, etc...

Nice answer, Carlos. So the order in which the new software is installed and the old doesn't matter, but immediately getting updates before running the new does. How does this apply to people with much more invasive software like mcaffee. Same routine? Will disk installed software completely uninstall? How about the compatibility issues of having more than one anti-virus program working at the same time?

Well, the order does matter. Uninstall the current program first, then install the new one. If uninstalled properly, the previous program should be removed completely, but that would depend on that specific program. You might want to take a look at this discussion: More than one AV software
