in my absence others open my dbfs (eg sales.dbf) in my computer. How to lock the dbfs and how to unlock it for my use.

It is not possible to lock any dbf file, rather than just make them hide or read only. Hope u know this procedure. It is better u have to download Folder Lock utility and install it. By the help of this utility u may lock foxpro folder or unlock as ur wish.

    Why not try just locking the PC when you leave it. Less hassle in the long run.

    You can use a round about method to secure dbf files:
    1. Save your dbf inf the sdf format. 
    use file1
    copy to file2 sdf
    zap
    use
    2. Open the file2.sdf text file in MS Word
    3. Save file2.sdf as a word document through SaveAs
    4. Protect file2.doc by a password
    Tools>Options->Security->Password to open.
    5. Save and Close file2.doc.
    6. Erase file2.sdf
    --------------------------------------------------------
    To use this data:
    1. Open file2.doc (provide password)
    2. Save file as text file with extension .sdf
    File->SaveAs "file2.sdf"
    3. Close file2.doc
    4. Open FoxPro/VFP and use file1.dbf (empty file)
    5. Type Append from file2.sdf sdf
    Use your data.
