Hi, So we have a card machine connecting to our internet. It stopped working so we called both out internet provider and card machine provider and the issue is actually a firewall blocking the internet. How do we go about this?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

You’re going to figure out where the firewall is and have the administrator of that system help you out. Know that no matter who gets involved and how adamant they are about a rule not being in place or a block not occurring, you can rest assured that it’s likely there somewhere. They just need to look more closely. The reason I say this is because I come across this issue quite often in my vulnerability and penetration testing. It could be intentional or unintentional. Either way, it can get in the way of business. Good luck!

Is this card machine means credit card machine? Or as you mentioned internet connection, so is the system runs on a desktop computer? If yes, what OS like Windows/Linux? If it is windows, are you sure that Windows firewall is disabled or configured properly that allows the particular port? Or if there is an anti virus installed? If an external anti virus installed, then check if it is configured properly. However more details are required.

More details are needed. What type of card machine for example (make/model). Is it for creating mag strip cards for ID's, hotel/access keys or just reading them. How is this card machine attached to the system. What is the current OS of the computer?

What firewall program are you using? I had a lot of issues with ZoneAlarm's firewall program lately and had to uninstall it to get some things working like Firefox. The other browsers worked just fine with it but just about every site was failing if I used Firefox.

If you are using this system for a long time so is it happened first time? Have you updated/ upgraded of your system recently? Assuming this is Windows OS, and check if there is any pending updates or any updates have not done properly in update history. Is there an interface for card machine what you are using now? If it is a software, then check any update prompts on task bar or system asks for the same. Please check all possible ways. However proper details are required for identify the issue.
