Currently, I have a LAN that has a number of Windows hosts. On my command line, I usually ping it to get the IP address of one of the Windows machines. Is there a way to get the hostname of one specific IP address in the same Windows workgroup?

The gethostbyaddr() function will run a DNS query to return a host name. In more recent implementations of sockets, you should probably use getnameinfo().
