There is generally no relationship between IP addresses and personal Facebook accounts (nor just about any similar account on other sites). There can be some correlations between them, but it can also change at any time. Correlations would be most likely to blocks of addresses rather than individual addresses.

@therealraven I am very aware of the disadvantages. I just want to know about how it can be done?

It may not be possible. IT depends if the IP address is static or not. If it changes every session you are out of luck. My question is how do you know this IP address even has a Facebook account? Not everyone does.

I track down a friend on the IRC knowing he has a Facebook account. I know when he is on Facebook so I would like an efficient method.

IP addresses don't have Facebook accounts; people have Facebook accounts (incuding "corporate persons"/businesses). There is no guaranteed relationship to an IP address.

If an address is static, the most likely way would be simply to type the address into a browser address field and press <Enter>. You'll either connect to web server or you won't. If you do, the web pages will probably identify a company, and googling that name would likely reveal any Facebook account. Or the server might automatically redirect to a Facebook account.

A WHOIS query might also identify a company name for a static IP address. Once the company is known, again googling would be reasonable.

But simply knowing an IP address gives you nothing as far as Facebook (or any other kind of account) is concerned.

For the most part Facebook can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection. That is as long as it's not blocked as in some corporate environments. Each computer would have a different IP address. So knowing an IP address only tells you the computer being used at that moment. There is no correlation to a Facebook account as your IP address may change daily. Your Facebook account does not. It's tied to an e-mail address.

There is no sure way of doing so. Too many variables. Unless you have access to Facebook's database you are out of luck. Even searching for a friend you know in Facebook can be tough. They really need to work on their search feature.
