Ethernet extension cabling

Hi - My expertise is in operating systems not networking but I am trying to resolve a networking problem. I have successfully created a network extension by feeding from a router to a wall socket I installed and ran cable through a wall, round a house, back through a wall and terminated in a wall socket. This socket works fine. I then created another wall socket, fed via an ethernet powered switch through another different wall and on to another remote wall socket. When I feed this socket from the powered ethernet switch I get nothing at the remote wall socket. I've checked continuity of the cable for each of the 4 pairs and they check out OK but I get nothing when I plug in a computer. at the remote wall socket  I've used the same colour coding for the second extension as I used for the first extension (which was successful) and given that the continuity checks out OK I am baffled as to why it doesn't work. I've also tried a crossover patch lead in various permutaions but I still get nothing.  The cable run is approx 10 metres and runs along a narrow passageway.   As a test I've replicated the sockets using the same colour coding with a short length of Cat6 and everything works fine. Can you suggest anything I could do to diagnose what may be going wrong?  Many thanks Chris

Switches and routers are two different technologies used to accomplish two different task. I gather that you are trying to use the Ethernet Switch to gain access to the internet like the router. You would need to plug a patch cable into the Switch from the Router to gain internet access through the switch. The switch is used to efficiently traffic data on a network. Cross over cables are used to connect one PC to another PC.

If there is two PCs, you can use cross cable to achieve the same.
