Emailing from iSeries with multiple attachments

Application development
I am looking for a way to send an email from the iSeries with multiple attachements. The attachments are documents (.doc, .pdf, etc.) in the IFS not spool files. SNDDST only allows one attachment and most of the other options I have seen involve spool files. Does anyone know how this can be done? Thanks in advance

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

When we got frustrated with the limitations of SNDDST we changed over to use the MMAIL utility available for free from

The utility makes use of the far more powerful QtmmSendMail API and allows you to attach all sorts of objects. Multiple attachments are supported, and the utility will convert spool files to PDF if required.

Hope it helps

We've had very good luck with the freeware called RPGMAIL. Aaron Bartell is the author and has been a big help getting the software installed and customized to our needs. The wonderful part is it doesn't use the OLD iSeries SNDDST, instead it utilizes your exchange server. The website is You can get more information and download the software from there. We are currently using the software to email customers ACH notifications, and attaching a copy of the payment summary. We create a spool file with with a .html header and footer and copy the stream file to the IFS. Note: The SNDDST assumes your IFS folderdocument location to start within QDLS. For the RPGMAIL functionality, the root directory is where it starts.

We've been using MAILTOOL from BVS Tools ( Very affordable, great support and easy to use and/or program. You should try the trial version.

You can try the AnyMail/400 API's to send emails. The "Create mail" API (QzmfCrtMailMsg) is to my opinion too complicated but you can get it to work and it does support multiple attachments from QDLS. It supports other file systems but I couldn't figure them out. Anyway, if you want to go this path please let me know.

We have been using ESEND for three or four years. It has a lot of functionality and has CL commands that you can run interactively or in batch. You can send a variety of files - physical, spool, stream in a variety of formats - TEXT, HTML, RTF, PDF, etc. It lets you email multiple attachments, set up distribution lists, create distribution rules etc.
