I am trying to identify where a specific line of data is coming from when I am in a session. I've tried Shift+ESC+3+14, and all I get are active DB files. Is there a way to focus the search to one specific line of data and identify the source DB?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

You will have to look at the source code for that program.

Much depends on your having programmer authority and some knowledge

    And probably the source code.

That is, methods to determine source of data would depend on

    1) you having programmer authority

    2) you having access to the source code

    3) your level of knowledge and expertise

Otherwise you are probably going in the right direction.  You have a method to determine the most likely files, although a file doesn't have to be on that list to be a source of data.

You will have to search files for data that matches what you're seeing on the screen. and what you are seeing maybe from one or more fields in one or more files.

The data could be coming from multiple files, not just one. The only way to be sure what is coming from where is to look at the program or by debugging.

    Thanks everyone for your input.

I don't have programmer authority, I just work with queries and database files, so my level of knowledge and expertise on programming is practically zero.

However I would like to have a better understanding on how AS 400 works beyond queries, and other programming functions.

How, or where, would any of you suggest I start.

    Thanks.

As a last resort the screen you get listing all the files being used also gives the RRN of the file. You could always check that out with a DFU and use RRN as the key.
