AS/400 dump space

Removed a MSD from one of our systems and cleared some space. After the weekly RTVDSKINF *SYSBAS and printing the disk information report - we still find some 10% (of 400Gb SYSBAS) allocated to Dump space. Is this 'Dump space' the same as the area used by the MSD or something else? If used by MSD; how can it be reclaimed?
Thanks.

See IBM's Reducing System ASP Disk Space/Storage Used document. Basic info on cleaning MSD space is found by searching the page for { MSD }. (Ignore the later part about forcing a MSD.)

    Hi and thanks,
The problem isn't about clearing space on the ASP. Rather a question about the specifik entry in the PRTDSKINF report. The entry labeled Dump Space; is that the space used by MSD or something else? Because the MSD have been removed from SST and if this is the space used by MSD then it seems we have a problem.
    Thanks.

AFAIK, space is reserved for MSDs, but I don't know if there is a published algorithm that shows how much. If you see 10% of DASD, I'd think it larger than normal.

How many MSDs did you remove? How much space was recovered? Has the system been IPLed since the MSDs were removed? How much memory is in the system?

I can imagine various factors that might cause a temporary rise in reserved space. Knowing more about the circumstances might help figure things better.

The one MSD removed cleared about 10% of ASP. I would then expect that the Dump space should have been decreased. No IPL done after removal of MSD. ASP on SYSBAS is 400Gb and memory some 130 Gb. Sure an IPL will cleare up ASP resources but I'm kind of trying to figure this out :)
