Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Namely because you are using the same program and icons are not designed
to change whenever a document is either updated or changed.  The icon
is for the program, not the document.

Saying that, if you have saved
the document on your desktop and are expecting it to change when you
update or change the file, again, it is the same reasoning.  The icon is
for the program, not the document.

What software are you using now. What kind of document, is it word or other one. Generally after modification icon never change, but date is changed. However more details are required.

What program are you using? Icons usually show the program or app associated with the file extension used to open it. They will not change unless the associated program changes or you change it manually.

I use both a desktop computer & a laptop. I am using MS Word 2010 & Windows 10 on both computers. The files are stored in One Drive cloud.

The laptop was upgraded to Windows 10 when it came out & the desktop computer was just recently changed to Windows 10 from Windows Home Premium 7.

I save a lot of HTM webpage files. The files are synced thru One Drive.

In the past if the file is modified in MS Word the icon changes to a 'W.'

The problem is that the laptop continues to show the 'W' changed file icon as usual, but the desktop does not.

    Why?

Are you sure the file is from the cloud? What was the icon before it changes to the "W" word file icon? It sounds like there may be a sync issue. If you open the directory, change a file, and save it in Word, what file extension/type does the other computer show for the same file you just changed?
