I use a docking station that says it is compatible with my new Latitude E5550, but do I need to make sure that the power cord that goes into my docking station is the one that came with my laptop, or does it matter as long as it is a Dell charger?

"Power cord"? Is it just a 'power cord'? Or is it actually a power adapter?

If it's an adapter, it mostly just needs to match whatever power specs the docking station needs (and of course to match the socket). We'd need to know the power specs of the dock and the adpapter.
