Social networking website Facebook has come under severe criticism for its privacy policy from users and tech geeks. Last year, the networking giant had changed its default privacy settings, allowing profile information to be shared on the Net, unless users specifically opted out. In March, it opened up data to third-party websites. Do you think Facebook knows too much about you?

    well all i can say is if you feel too much information is shared, then dont use it. I will give an example, my friend whose friend always tag him in fb for pictures decided to remove his fb account as he dont want to be tag or featured so much. i too for once diactivated my fb account for a month and without it dont really make much difference. so its a choice people will have to make.

    I think many Facebook users couldn't care less about what the world knows about them. If they did, they wouldn't post that they're going on vacation and then subsequent photos of themselves passed out drunk - that kind of stuff. We're expedient creatures who want to be heard and many people don't think about the long-term consequences of their choices today. If Facebook privacy is going to change, it's going to have to change from within the users themselves.

    Yep. All you need to do is sit in one identity theft seminar and you would think twice about using Facebook. IBM Common offered a seminar on identity theft a few years back and it was a real eye opener. If you post info like actual birthdate, city you live in, schools you went to or list other family members..you left yourself wide open. It's amazing how little is needed to get one's entire life story on line. A lot from public records and other organizations that may be sharing your info with out your knowledge... I don't even bank on line or have a smart phone.. To easy for people to intercept electronic communications these days. If you are worried the best thing is keep it to yourself.
