DNS zone in Windows server

It's a topic related to Windows Server DNS zone. I have many no. of doubts. My friend told me that zone & namespace are same. ie; While we configure a DNS server, we will have a namespace. As per his words, that namespace is also known as zone (One zone=One namespace). But when I searched more i noted 1 more thing. ie; we can divide a namespace into several zones. Then his words might be wrong. Also I saw an option in DNS pane that allows us to create multiple forward & backward lookup zones in same DNS. Now I'm totally confused with this zone concept. Can anybody explain?
  1. ZONE (as simple as possible)?
  2. Zone & Namespace are equal?
  3. Is it possible to divide same namespace into many zones? How can we divide? Why do we need to do so?
  4. What is the need of multiple forward & backward lookup zones in same DNS?
