Disk checking in Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows is auto checking disk C. Will this continue to happen or is it being hacked?
It's recommending let it check all files or can cancel. When I cancel-some sites are not working, it freezes. Is this a legitimate request from Windows? Thanks!

It's unlikely that it has anything to do with "hacking", and we'd have no way to know in the unlikely case that it did. We'd need access to your system to be sure.

Most likely, some inappropriate handling of the system caused a problem, and Windows is trying to recover. Another possibility is that the disk drive is close to failure. Also, the system might have overheating problems; perhaps air filters need cleaning.

Where are you seeing this message? Is it when the computer starts or at a random point while you are using it? It may be that it's close to capacity or failure or overheating like Raven mentions. Have you checked the disk properties?
