I have a backup tape of Production system. I need to restore it in another system, which is newly bought and does not have anything loaded on it. What would be the step by step procedure to build the system from scratch.
What kind of system? What is the OS? What version is the OS? What
product made the backup? What was included in the backup? Is the new
system compatible with what will be restored? -- Tom
If the new system has nothing loaded, how can it be V5R4? And what was included in the backup? (What backup options were used to create backup image?) Is this for a DR test? -- Tom
As per the plan we would like to have V5R4 OS in DR box. The backup in production is full system save(option 21 backup). Yes, this is a disaster test that we want to do from scratch.
Thanks
First step has to be downloading the Backup and Recovery book from the V5R4 Information Center. It's available through the Recovering your system topic. Start becoming familiar with it.
You can generally use the Recovering your system topic in the i 7.1 Information Center as an on-line learning guide. It covers the same procedures as the V5R4 book, though it has some extra details that apply to i 6.1 or 7.1. The on-line guide can let you decide which strategy you want to follow and will provide the steps you'll use.
Once you have those steps chosen, follow the same sequence from the V5R4 book. Don't deviate from the steps as listed. The variations are too complex to list, especially since they're already listed by IBM. If anything doesn't make sense, ask about it back here.
