1 advantage is portability of data outside the company if you do not access to the server.

2 main disadvantages are possibly limited space for data (depends on the media) and chance of data loss. If you misplace it, someone may easily get your data unless it's encrypted.

The main disadvantage is the space limit and security.

CD/ flash drive both may be lost or corrupted. However, flash drive can carry easily than a CD. You can find at least one use port, but may not find cd/dvd drive.

Another risk to CD and flash is damage or loss of the media itself. Ever try to play a scratched CD? One small scratch from mishandling may cause data loss. USB drives are more durable but with their size they can easily be lost.

However there are so many ways to recover files/ folders specially from flash drive, but they are not 100% work at all time.

You need to be careful with a lot of USB drives. Some are much better quality as I have found out the hard way. Because of their size I would just toss it in my pants pocket and take my data to work and back. Forgot it once and my pant went through the wash and dry cycle. Guess what - no data anymore. Now I keep my USB drives on a key chain. One drive for each project and now I never forget where they are.

Without knowing specifics of what is saved and why, it's hard to know what disadvantages are. A broken CD or flash drive isn't necessarily any worse then a broken HDD on a file server. It could easily be better if a damaged CD loses only 600MiB of saved data while a crashed HDD loses a TiB or more.
