So my laptop is running Windows 10 and there's a microphone attached to it. I never use and don't want to use it. I already disabled it in Device Manager but it's still functioning. Is there anywhere else that I need to disable it in? Appreciate the help.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

I have found that a piece of black electrical tape can serve as a good failsafe in the event a microphone is still “on” or you don’t trust that it’s truly disabled.

If you disabled it, how do you know it's still working? Does it now show as being disabled?

Probably, you are experiencing feedback from the microphone to the speakers. Even disable from Device Manager, microphone provides feedback. Try this one, Click speakers at bottom of taskbar. Select playback devices. Highlight the default speaker. Click Properties, select Levels Tab, and disable Microphone FP. Next click OK.

One more thing you can do, navigate to Settings app > Privacy > Microphone. Under Microphone, toggle off 'Let apps use my microphone' option to stop all modern apps from using the microphone. If you want to prevent a specific app from accessing the microphone, look for the app name in the Choose apps that can use your microphone list, and turn off the option.

What makes you think it's still working? What are the symptoms? Once disable it should not be an issue. Are you referring to Cortana still being active?
