So I just bought a new laptop that's running Windows 10. Since I had an account with Microsoft Office 2016, I went ahead and deleted Office 365. But whenever I try to open a document in Microsoft Word, I get a notification popup that brings up installing / buying Office 365. I don't want it - how can I disable it?

How did you uninstall that, through system or by using a tool? However, after uninstall, check whether there is an app called Get Office 365 on your system. If yes, click Settings > System > Apps & choose Get Office 365. Now uninstall the same. Or check if there are no leftovers files of Office 365 on your system.

Try right clicking on the file and then properties and see what the default application to open the file is set to. You might have to point this to you current version of Office.
