The clone or “PROXY” command keeps referencing the command it refers to. A CHGCMD or CHGCMDDFT against a PROXY command actually changes the command the Proxy refers too. A DUPLICATE command (created with CRTDUPOBJ) is a completely new command and is an object that stands on its own.
Another point with PROXY commands is that if the command it references changes this also is reflected in all the PROXY commands.

    If you are familiar with SQL, the clone/proxy is like creating an alias. It's just another reference to an existing object.
