Dell to Compaq software transfer

I lost Windows XP on my Compaq and dont have backup disks for it. Because of cost and low funds on my side can I install Dell only XP on my Compaq laptop? I use MS Office and surfing the net on the Compaq. Can anyone answer?

Yes, make sure you use the product key from the dell when installing on the compaq laptop.
But if your Dell CD contains an OEM copy of Windowws XP, you can only use it on the Dell Machine it was bought for. You can’t transfer an OEM license to another machine.
