What is a supercomputer?

Any definition in science has to be precise, and should not use terms like large, huge, enormous, very fast and so on. When I searched for the definition of a super computer, I could not get such technically and scientifically precise definition. Has it been defined at all, if so can someone help me. Prof. KS NATARAJ

It a matter of perspective as to what is "super".  Check out the wiki link here.

It would be hard to set exact standards for this classification as technology changes so fast today. IT may no longer be true months down the road.

I think that this part from the answer in the Wiki: "...a computer that performs at or near the currently highest operational rate for computers." is the closest you can get to a specific or precise definition.

It has to be relative to something, otherwise, as Todd mentions, the supercomputers of today would stop begin supercomputers in a matter of months.
