Data synchronization
The requirement is to make the data in test server same as the live server. This update should happen every week. The test server should hold only last one year data from production. Please let me know the best possible way to do this. (Taking backup from live and restore in test is an option. But the requirement is to keep only one year data from production for transaction files due to test server size constraint)

I have a procedure to Copy Live data to a test/development system. Basically it restores the Production Libraries on the Test (with a prefix) , strips out all Logical files and than does a COPY MAP/DROP to the Test Libraries. Of course one needs enough free disk space to accomplish this. I have been doing it from a Production server (3Tb at 65%) to test (1.7Tb at 70%).
The stage where one has the Libs restored on Test is the place to "Strip" your data from records a year old.

Besides the Storage Issue there will also be a Time issue. In my scenario the Test system is free to use until the Data Copy starts.
Depending on the number of prodcution environments to copy this can take a whole night to a full weekend. This all depends on your particular situation.

Are you familiar with Save Restore commands (SAVRSTOBJ, SAVRSTLIB, SAVRSTCHG, &c.)?

The issue sound like it only wanting to move they last years data to the test environment. How many files are involved? Do all these file have a date field to filter on or are they linked like a parent to a child record? Depending on the data to copy over is it fixed by year or a scrolling years worth of data? You might be able to create a logical using the select/omit to only look at that years data and copy it to the test physicals.
