I hv a trans tbl and want to keep the records to be purged on Tape/Media and read the data from there whenever required? I want to know, Is that possible to read data from the tape ? if so, then how to do it, neee help

No you can not place online data on a tape. Tape can only be used for backing up the database.

The recommended solution would be to get slower less expensive hard drives and use them to host a second filegroup which you move the old data to.
