Data import on Oracle based system

Hello, I work in the oil & gas industry and currently we work in an Oracle based system. I am new to this company and they currently don't have any established way to import data into the system (I know it is at least 9 years old); it has to be done in a very methodical, slow paced manual way and it eats up most of everyone's time. At all my prior positions, uploads were a normal thing. My questions is this. Is a mass data import possible in an Oracle based system and what are the first steps towards gaining that capability?

There is an Oracle tool called “SQL*Loader” which you can probably use to automate the data import in your system.

In Oracle, there is also the concept of “External Tables” which allows you to access data in external sources as if it were in a database table, so you can then perform INSERT-SELECT statements from there into your real database tables, to actually import the data.
