Damaged iPhone 5S Help?

So recently, the higher powers above have been sending me signs that I need to get a new phone. I've had an iPhone 5S for the past five years, and I've been lucky that nothing has happened to it up until now... my luck has ran out, though. About a week ago I dropped it in the bath and it took about two or three days to recover fully. I thought that was the end of my misfortune, but just a few hours ago today, I accidentally dropped it down a flight of stairs and I knew it was done for the moment it slipped out of my hands. I guessed right... the inner workings of my phone seem to be fine, but the screen isn't working whatsoever, so I basically have no way to access my phone through the device itself. TL;DR: I can turn it on/off and take screenshots of my lock screen, but the screen itself is just a white background with staticky lines running through it.
Fortunately, I have most of my information backed up onto my iCloud... everything except for my notes, however, which are probably one of the most important things on my phone considering I am a writer. I had NO IDEA they weren't being backed up... if I knew earlier, I would have done something immediately. But now I'm stuck in this predicament and I don't really know what to do about it. I've looked up screen repairs in my area, but my phone is so old that most places don't have the required parts to fix it. One website said that they can send the phone away to Apple for it to be repaired if it is an earlier model than an iPhone 6, but I'm pretty sure that costs money and I'm wondering if it's the only way I can salvage my notes. Again... my phone is working, but the screen is not. I'm almost positive that's all I need to get fixed in order to get things up and running again, but I'm hesitant towards putting any money towards it since I'm buying a new phone within the next few days anyway and all I need from this iPhone 5S is my notes.
Any advice? Thanks a bunch.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Not real familiar with i-Phones but have you tried connecting the phone to a computer via a cable? This may let you access the phone as an external device/drive and you may be able to recover your data. I know It works with Android devices a lot of the time.

You are concerned about your Notes, which is a great feature of iPhone. As you mentioned others backups are there.

You can download/ install this tool, this is free to use & can help to take backup of your iPhone data including Notes. Just connect through data cable & make sure iTunes is up to date on your system.

Download/ install the free version. Pro version is not necessary. The link is here, https://www.easeus.com/phone-transfer/
