Error encountered when opening streamfile. Please check name. I assume the Streamfile is Spool file. I am using to Database file *FLDR. The PC file is being sent to /QDLS/XLS. Could there be a problem with Authority? Thanks for any help.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

If it was an authority error, you would get a specific message telling you about authorization.

.XLS is a ME EXCEL extension.

Please give us the compete command you are trying to run. Also include all messages in the job log with message IDs

Copying to /QDLS file system : name restriction is active names can be 8 long with a 3 char extension. Using longer names will result in error.

The error message is what I wrote in the title and also below.

Error encountered when opening streamfile.   Please check name.

The PC file I am sending the data to is only 7 char long...

    XLOUTCK.XLS

    ...

As far as I can find out about CVTSPLF there is no option on converting to Excell format (XLS). Would there be a name conflict with the Extension used ? Have you tried the command with a destination to the IFS ? (Not to /QDLS) You should stop using that.
One more thing : does the destination folder exist ?

I don't muck about with QDLS much any more but I think the User not enrolled in system distribution directory may well be your problem.

Indeed when using QDLS file system the user needs a Directory entry : ADDDIRE command.
But as mentioned before : stop using the QDLS file system if possible. It is slower than IFS, there is the naming restriction and IBM has stopped support on it.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to my question. My problem was the user not being in the System directory.

    I am all set now.

Thanks for responding. Many people do not do that so we do not know if our answers were of any value.
