I have an 14 character field downloaded by cpytoimpf that creates a 14 character field containing "09101616574221" (it has the double quotes). When opened in Excel it is formatted as a General type field and contains "9.10162E+12". Why does Excel reformat the field. I have other all numeric text fields that don't get changed "

Software/Hardware used:

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

I believe you have to format the character field to numeric format (Decimal type and remove zeroes after decimal point)

Thanks for your answer. The only problem comes when it may have alpha characters. Also it is important to have leading zeros displayed.
Is there a way of defining a cvs field as TEXT instead of GENERAL?

Open excel , select Data menu, Import  external data.
Open .csv , import data wizard display , at step 2 can change Column data type to Character.
