Got the cryptowall 3.0, took my dell laptop in, no restore points, had to get a new hard drive, have files and pictures on my old hard drive.
Surely by now we have developed a method or technology to recover these files?

There is a way to recover files, but, depending on what organization you take it to, it will cost you a pretty penny to recover them.

Sorry to hear about your problem. Yes they can be recovered but these service can run you a good amount of money. Look for someone reputable. I always back up things like this to multiple media just in case. You can pick up drives cheap now. Recently I got a WD 4TB external drive for 119.00. For things like vacation pics I save these of to flash/thumb drives as a backup. Worth the piece of mind for a few dollars IMHO.
