Have you written some code about that? Is this a standalone program? If you want to first check whether the file exists, take a look at System.IO.file, it has Exists method, which accepts file name & returns boolean. However you may come with your piece of code that helps to get quick replies.

I haven't written any code. I am a beginner. I have a Word file. I have a list of names to lookup to rename the file. I was looking for an easy way to rename the Word file. I can't use a batch program, because the file names are all different.

It is necessary to learn something with depth knowledge. You can read some good books based on VB or there are several online tutorials web sites that provide good examples which can help you to understand. Here is a link that can also help you, https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/visual-basic/developing-apps/programming/drives-directories-files/how-to-rename-a-file

It's a learning curve. Post the code you have written, good or bad and any errors. We will be glad to help out and show you where the code needs to be fixed. This way you learn by doing. Anyone can cut and paste code. You just won't learn and reinforce the concepts unless you try yourself.

These are all excellent points. I do intend on researching and learning more. I was just in a time crunch.
