We currently have a SQL Server 2008 database that needs to be copied and renamed as a new database. We're not too worried about losing data - it's a new database. Basically - we want to keep the same structure as the old database / set a new name to it. What's the best way to do this?

You could always script the current one using SQL Server management studio to a new window and change the name to your new data base. Do you need the data as well?

you can use the sp_renamedb system stored procedure to quickly rename a SQL Server Database. But, it doesn't rename the Logical and Physical names of the underlying database files.

Have you tried using the Microsoft Copy Database Wizard for doing this?
