How long this file? Is this a hue one? What text editor is there? If it is small file, you can copy the texts and paste on to Notepad. In Notepad there is no formatting may rule while convert from Word to text. Generally if you are using a tool for that purpose, the tool tries to keep the original formatting.

Converting to a text file format may require some tweaking. I guess you might try saving as a Rich Text Format. This may keep some of the formatting but if you need a true TXT file format, I cannot think of anything that will save it as text with all the formatting 100 percent. A plain txt file has one font, one size and one color. What is the intended use of the file after it's converted to text? Why won't the DOC / DOCX file formats work?
