Connecting a lalptop to monitor

Guys can someone tell me how to connect my Msi gs65 stealth thin laptop to a exernal monitor . I was told that you needed a display port but don't have one . Also I was told that using hdmi would lower the frame rate of gaming to 60. My laptop is capable of more . If anyone know that to do please reply!!!

    MSI laptops generally have mini-display ports. If needed, inexpensive (<$10) adapters are available.

    See, connecting an extra monitor may not be as simple as just plugging into an HDMI port. The vagaries of hardware/ software support may leave some users out of luck when they try to add an extra display.

    Most monitors are compatible with multiple connection types, but you may need to invest in a new cable/ even an adapter in order to match the display with the computer's available outputs. These vary in cost, from $10 to well over $100, depending upon the connections involved.
