Compal PBL21 Insyde BIOS

A simple question ( I hope ) - can the BIOS be modded to allow more ram to be added - on a machine happily running an i7 8gb seems a little low for a limit. Not much info on Insyde Bios and company unresponsive.

Software/Hardware used:
Win 7 Pro, 8gb ram

How much ram are you looking to add? It's usually restricted by the hardware on the motherboard as to what the limit is the last I remember when I built my last desktop units. I never messed around with the BIOS but I do believe that is how some people overclock their processors.

The biggest chip in that type is 32gb but I`d be happy to go to 16 per slot for a total of 32.

Yes I got that but some of the driver scanners say up to 32 so i was hoping some clever person could answer my question because 8gb does seem low these days - new boards are up to 64 now.

The most I have seen in an over the counter laptop is 8 gig. Yours looks like a custom laptop. Can you provide info as to why you are trying to expand the ram that much? The processor seems sufficient as well as the video. If this is for graphics design I would recommend a desktop instead of a laptop due to cooling issues when rendering graphics.

PCSpecialist who built my machine 5 years ago are offering up to 64 now - with the current resource heavy crop of programs 8 is bare minimum. I run a significant number of programs many of whi are heavy on resources - cad / video editing / online film work. I was hoping to get some feedback from an expert BIOS person to see if the type of change I am asking for is possible rather than admitting defeat and going for a new machine. The type of work I do is well within the scope of a laptop.

Nothing helpful to add but, yeah, 8 GB is usually a small amount of RAM nowadays.
